There are many different types of Bodywork available. They are all valid modalities for treating certain conditions. As you read through this list you’ll find that there is a great deal of overlap regarding benefits however, they all have different approaches and focuses in their practice.
Below is the list of bodywork types that may be included in a typical session:
Swedish Massage : The grand daddy of them all. It’s not the oldest modality but it certainly is the most well-known. Swedish massage is based on
5 techniques that are used to improve circulation and promote relaxation.
Shiatsu / Acupressure : Also known as acupuncture without needles. This Asian bodywork is based on an energetic map of channels throughout the body. Too much or too little energy in any of these channels may be the cause of many conditions. Even though the focus of this bodywork is to balance the body’s energy system, it is a very physical bodywork.
Sports Massage : This is very specific bodywork that focuses on a specific event, sport, or activity. For example a typical session for a marathon runner might include flexibilty training and deep bodywork on the legs and low back.
